Since completing his Masters from the Royal College of Art, Professor Robertshaw has worked across commercial, cultural and artistic sectors. As an academic he has worked across a number of institutions including the University of Wales and Liverpool John Moores University. Whilst at Salford University he developed and was course leader for, the MA Creative technology. He came to prominence as a creative interactive artist exhibiting in major galleries around the world. Most notably he was shortlisted for the Imaginaria Award in 1998 and received many commissions including work from the Wellcome Trust in 1998. His focus changed in 2000 when he appointed Head of Research at the International Centre for Digital Content at Liverpool John Moores University, developing creative solutions across a number of technologies  within cultural, creative and commercial sectors.  He took over as Director in 2003 of ICDC and drove the development of a Digital Academy project on Merseyside the first phase of this is now in place with grants from Government Office Northwest and Northwest Development Agency totalling 11 million pounds.

He  moved to the University of Central Lancashire in 2007 where he was Director of Sandbox, Centre for Creative and Digital Industries.


He was Dean of Arts & Digital Industries at the University of East London from 2013 - 2021. Professor Simon Robertshaw is now Deputy Vice Chancellor at


Ravensbourne University London.
